‘55.7 billion to 142.6 billion’ transfer fee explosion in a year…Man Utd invest aggressively
Benfica’s Gonzalo Hamus, 21, could be on the move.
The Boot Room, a British publication, cited a report by Rudy Galletti of GiveMeSports on Sunday (July 27), which mentioned the Hammers transfer rumors.
“Manchester United could make a big offer for Hammers this summer,” the outlet reported, adding, “United are desperate to sign a new striker this summer.”
“United have relied heavily on Marcus Rashford this season. They need a natural number nine who can outperform Anthony Martial and Boutefeuille.”
Galletti added: “United could make a huge offer of more than £87m to convince Benfica to let Hammers go this summer. They could get close to the release clause, which is set at £140 million.”
“Given the overall cost, it’s not going to be a quick deal. It will take time.”
Hamus joined the Benfica youth team in 2013 and has been with the club ever since. He made his first-team debut in 2019-20 and really started to make his mark in 2021-22, scoring eight goals and four assists in 46 games, and has exploded this season with 27 goals and 12 assists in 47 games.
Notably, he is filling the void left by Darwin Núñez’s departure to Liverpool. He’s thrived as Benfica’s main attacking option.
The World Cup in Qatar raised his profile even further. Hamus came off the bench in all three group stage games. This was because Cristiano Ronaldo was starting.안전놀이터
But when the Ronaldo effect didn’t work, Portugal coach Fernando Santos put him in the starting lineup for the round of 16 against Switzerland. The mercenary move worked. Hammers was active throughout the match, scoring a hat trick and providing an assist to help his team to victory.
His price tag is skyrocketing. According to The Boot Room, “Newcastle United were prepared to pay close to £34 million for Hammers last summer. In less than a year, they could have to pay nearly three times as much.”
