At ‘just 42’, Wainwright reaches 200 wins before retirement… ‘Best friend’ Kim Kwang-hyun congratulates him

After 18 years on the mound in Major League Baseball (MLB), veteran right-handed pitcher Adam Wainwright (42-St. Louis) reached the 200-win plateau in his final season.

Wainwright started the Cardinals’ home game against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 19 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, and pitched seven innings of four-hit ball with two walks and three strikeouts to lead the Cardinals to a 1-0 victory. He picked up his fifth win of the season (11-0) and reached 200 career wins.

There were threats throughout the game, but Wainwright was able to keep them at bay. He induced Carlos Santana to fly out to center field with one out in the first inning and got William Contreras to ground into an infield single with runners on first and second in the third. He allowed runners to reach base in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings, but worked out of trouble to keep the game scoreless.

Wilson Contreras took the pressure off Wainwright in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Contreras hit a game-winning home run over the left field fence to give Wainwright his 200th win.

Wainwright threw a total of 93 pitches on the day. His sinker dominated the mix with 32 pitches, touching 87.6 mph (141 km/h). He also had 20 curves, 20 cut fastballs, nine changeups, and four four-seam fastballs.

Wainwright is a franchise star who made his big league debut with St. Louis in 2005. In 2007, he went 14-12 with a 3.70 ERA and was an integral part of the starting rotation, and in 2014, he was at his peak, going 20-9 with a 2.83 ERA and setting career highs.메이저사이트

After an Achilles injury in 2015, he struggled for a while, but he didn’t let that stop him. Wainwright bounced back in 2019 with a 14-10 record and a 4.19 ERA. Last year, he went 11-12 with a 3.71 ERA.

In his final season, Wainwright went 5-11 with a 7.40 ERA, but he capped it off with his 200th win. Wainwright joins Justin Verlander (255), Zack Greinke (224), Max Scherzer (214), and Clayton Kershaw (209) as the only active players to reach 200 wins.

Wainwright is known for his close friendship with former SSG Kim Kwang-hyun. When Kim was struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 when he arrived in the United States, Wainwright trained with him to help him adjust. When Wainwright reached 200 wins that day, Kim congratulated him on social media, shouting out his nickname “Waino”.
