ATL’s Olson hits 49th homer…closes in on franchise record for home runs in a season

While Shohei Ohtani (Los Angeles Angels) faltered, home run king Matt Olson (Atlanta Braves) soared.

Olson was named the National League (NL) Player of the Week, as announced by Major League Baseball (MLB) on Wednesday. It’s his third career honor and second this season.

In six games over the past week, Olson batted .546 with four home runs, eight RBIs, eight runs scored and a 1.766 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage). He has homered in four straight games, starting on Aug. 4 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Olson trailed Ohtani by one with 43 home runs through August, but rebounded with five more in 10 games in early September. In the meantime, Ohtani was sidelined with a strained right oblique muscle. He returned on Sept. 12 against the Seattle Mariners, but his red-hot pace had slowed.바카라사이트

Olson has already surpassed his single-season record for home runs (39) set in 2021. He added one more on Dec. 12 against the Philadelphia Phillies to reach 49. At his current pace, he should surpass 50 homers in the remainder of the regular season. He’s also on pace to break the franchise record for most home runs in a season by an Atlanta player. The previous record was 51, set by Andrew Jones in 2005.

Olson is also first in RBIs (126). He’s having an MVP-caliber season. However, teammate Ronald Acuna Jr. is more competitive, with 36 homers and 65 doubles through 11 days, and is on pace for 40 homers and 70 doubles. Olson’s realistic goals are to win the home run and RBI titles.
