‘Awkward Encounter’ McIlroy Plays with LIV’s Wisberger

It’s an awkward meeting.’

Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), world number one in men’s golf, will play in a group with Bernd Wiesberger (Austria) of LIV Golf on the final day of the DP World Tour Hero Dubai Desert Classic (total prize money: $9 million).

McIlroy hit 8 under par 136 until the second round of the tournament held at the Emirates Golf Club (par 72) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the 28th (local time) and tied for 7th place. As a result of the third round grouping announced after the game, they were drawn in a group with Wisberger and Dan Bradbury (England).

Among them, Bisberger played on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour before moving to LIV Golf last year.

McIlroy, who has been at odds with LIV golf, is not very happy about a match with Wiesberger. Moreover, McIlroy had a war of nerves with Patrick Reed (USA) of LIV prior to the opening of this tournament. Reid greeted them first at the practice range, but he reacted coldly.

An awkward meeting between McIlroy and Bisberger took place, but the worst was averted. Reed hit 8 under par until the second round and was tied for 7th place with McIlroy. Starting from the 3rd round, the grouping will change according to the results. There was a possibility that the two would play in a group as they tied for 7th place, but avoided an awkward encounter. Reed will face Matt Wallace (England) and Julian Brun (France) in front of McIlroy. 안전놀이터

Unlike the PGA Tour, which was banned from participating in this tournament hosted by the DP World Tour, LIV golf players were also given a chance to participate. In addition to Reed and Bisberger, LIV Golf players such as Henrik Stenson (Sweden), Abraham Anser (Mexico), Ian Poulter, and Lee Westwood (above England) participated.
