‘Choi Seung-yong QS & Yang Eui-ji Wedge Cannon’ Doosan Winning Series Secured… KIA 4 consecutive defeats

Doosan recovered its 50% win rate thanks to the good pitching of substitute starter Choi Seung-yong.

The Doosan Bears won 5-1 in the 5th game of the season against the KIA Tigers in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League held at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on the 13th.

Doosan secured the winning series early with two consecutive wins, recording 16 wins, 1 draw and 16 losses in the season. After the match against Lotte on the 9th, he recovered his win rate to 50% in 4 games. On the other hand, KIA, which fell into a quagmire of four consecutive losses, became 14-16.

Doosan pushed KIA starter Adonis Medina hard from the first inning. After one out, Yang Chan-yeol and Yang Eui-ji hit the bases consecutively, and second base runner Yang Chan-yeol scored the first run, taking advantage of a catch error by shortstop Park Chan-ho, who came out while Kim Jae-hwan was at bat. Afterwards, Seok-Hwan Yang from 1st out, 1st and 3rd baseman made a sacrifice fly to the right fielder, and Jose Rojas widened the gap with an RBI and a timely hit. 3-0 Doosan lead.

KIA met Doosan starter Choi Seung-yong and suffered from a scoring gap. In the 2nd inning, Choi Hyeong-woo opened the game with a right-handed hit, but the follow-up hit failed.

Doosan, who missed the second out and third base chance, gained strength in the fifth inning. After Su-bin Jeong, the leader, went on base with a surprise bunt that caught the opponent off guard, Eui-ji Yang fired a two-run gun. Yang Eui-ji hit Medina’s low curve (125 km) in 2B-2S and connected it with a wedge home run. It was the second home run of the season, three weeks after the match against Hanwha in Daejeon on April 20. 안전놀이터

KIA scored the first run in the 6th inning with Kim Sun-bin’s hit followed by Choi Hyung-woo’s double. However, this time too, Hwang Dae-in, Socrates, and Lee Woo-sung failed to save second base, and the additional score was canceled.

Doosan starter Choi Seung-yong won his second win (third loss) of the season with a good pitching of 5 hits, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts and 1 run in 6 innings. He filled the void left by the injured Kwak Bin brilliantly. Park Chi-guk and Kim Kang-ryul took responsibility. In the other lineup, Su-bin Su played an active role with 2 hits and Yang Eui-ji with 2 RBIs.

On the other hand, KIA starter Medina suffered the 5th loss (1 win) of the season with 5 hits (1 home run), 3 walks, 6 strikeouts and 5 runs (2 earned) in 6⅓ innings. Choi Hyung-woo’s multi-hit performance was overshadowed by defeat.
