Gambia, in same group as South Korea, win second straight over France

The Gambia made it two wins in a row at the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 with a win over France.

The Gambia defeated France 2-1 in their second Group F match on Saturday (June 26) at the Mendoza Stadium in Argentina.

The Gambia, who defeated Honduras 2-1 in the first round, topped the group with two wins.

France, who lost their first game 1-2 against South Korea, dropped to the bottom of the group with their second straight defeat.

The Gambia opened the scoring in the 13th minute on an own goal.

A short ball from France goalkeeper Yann Linard was intercepted in the middle of the field by the Gambia, and on the ensuing counterattack, Adama Boyang’s shot bounced off the French goalkeeper and a defender before finding the back of the net.

The Gambia had a chance to make it 2-0 12 minutes into the second half when they were awarded a penalty kick, but the French goalkeeper made the save.

Having survived the crisis, France equalized in the 16th minute of the second half when Wilson Odobe headed home from a free kick.안전놀이터

However, the Gambia scored the final goal of the match in the 23rd minute when Mamin Sanyang broke into the penalty area and beat one defender with a right-footed shot.

The Gambia will face South Korea in their third group game at 6 a.m. on Sept. 29.

In Group E, England defeated Uruguay 3-2 in a nail-biter to earn their second straight win and advance to the Round of 16.

South Korea, who finished second in Group F, will meet the runner-up from Group E in the Round of 16.
