‘Hughes sacking’ Wolverhampton financial crisis? Manager says “I have to tell the truth”
Head coach Julen Lopetegui has spoken out.
Wolverhampton fell to a 0-5 defeat at the hands of Arsenal in the 38th round of the 2022-23 English Premier League (EPL) season at the Emirates Stadium in London, England, at 0:30 a.m. ET on September 29. The result ends the season for Wolverhampton (41 points) in 13th place in the final standings.
It was one-sided. Arsenal jumped out to an early lead with Granit Xhaka goals in the 11th and 14th minutes. They added another in the 27th minute to make it a goal-fest. Wolverhampton responded at the start of the second half with the introduction of Nabil Neves and Layan Ait-Nouri.
But the substitutions proved fruitless. Wolverhampton pulled a goal back 13 minutes into the second half through Gabriel Jesus. Arsenal capped it off with a goal from Yakup Kibio in the 23rd minute. In the end, Wolverhampton lost their final game of the season to Arsenal.
This summer is crucial. Currently, Wolverhampton are plagued by Financial Fair Play (FFP) issues. The investment promised to Lopetegui by the club is unclear, and there is speculation that Hwang and other key players could leave as scapegoats.
According to the BBC, “Lopetegui took over from last-place Wolverhampton in November last year and succeeded in keeping the club up. But his future is uncertain due to financial problems. Wolverhampton need to make up for £150 million in losses that have accumulated over three years.”
“At the moment I am the Wolverhampton manager, but of course I am ambitious,” Lopetegui said, according to the outlet, before adding: “The most important thing is to tell the fans the truth. We are competing on the EPL stage. If there are problems, we have to solve them.”안전놀이터
“The future belongs to the club, not to me. I hope they do what they need to do (invest) despite the financial problems. The rest of the clubs should do the same. Now is the time to tell the truth and analyze. It’s time to learn and work for the future,” he said.
In the worst case scenario, Lopetegui could be on his way out. Wolverhampton are looking for a breakthrough by reducing their squad. The summer transfer window is upon us.
