‘Incomprehensible from the start’ Hanwha-KIUM doubleheader becomes ‘worst schedule’ between extra innings + day game

The doubleheader schedule between the Hanwha Eagles and Kiwoom Heroes was hard to understand. With 12 extra innings the day before, it’s the worst of the worst.

Hanwha and Kiwoom will play the 13th and 14th games of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League back-to-back at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on April 9. From the time the schedule was announced, both head coaches Hong Won-ki and Choi Won-ho were unhappy with the doubleheader. However, in the end, the schedule was not rescheduled and they will play two games in the toughest conditions.

Kiwoom, which calls the Gochukdome home, doesn’t have a rainout policy for home games, so they get less time off than other teams in the middle of the season when it’s hot and demanding. However, this allows them to play a generous schedule in the second half of the season. Once again this season, Kiwoom has already finished a lot of games and can prepare for matches with as many as four days off. It doesn’t make sense for Kiwoom to play a doubleheader when they can afford to play a single game.

It’s not like Kiwoom and Hanwha’s schedules are so stacked that it’s hard to squeeze in one game. Hanwha has Monday off after this weekend series against Kiwoom, and they don’t play the next two days after their game against Doosan in Jamsil on the 12th. The three days off in between are scheduled as reserve days for Kiwoom and Hanwha, and there’s virtually no chance of a rainout at the Gocheok Dome.

Hanwha, while not as fortunate as Kiwoom, would much rather play a game on one of their days off than a doubleheader. If they had played one of their games on the reserve day, they wouldn’t have had to travel to Seoul, which is the same city as Jamsil. Hanwha asked the KBO to reschedule the game, but nothing happened, so both Hanwha and Kiwoom had to accept the hardship.

To make matters worse, the day before the doubleheader, Hanwha and Kiwoom played 12 extra innings in eight days. Hanwha and Kiwoom used eight different pitchers that day. Hanwha decided to start Kim Ki-jung and Nam Ji-min on the ninth, while Kiwoom would start Kim Dong-hyuk and one other bullpen member due to Ariel Furado’s sore elbow. But as the game dragged on, the two managers had more trouble.메이저사이트

A doubleheader that starts at 2 p.m. after an extra-inning game that ended after 11 p.m. is one thing, but a doubleheader is another. Sunday’s game will be a 2 p.m. start. It’s hard enough to play a day game the day after an evening game, let alone a doubleheader that could have been avoided. The accumulated fatigue makes it difficult to guarantee a good performance.
