KBO’s 48-win lefty is doing as well as Lotte… Zero ERA in May ‘dreams of NL No. 1’
The KBO’s Lotte Giants are doing as well as their former ace.
Brooks Reilly, 35, New York Mets, entered the game in relief with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, trailing 7-11, and struck out left-hander Harold Castro on a full count with an 82.5-mph sweeper to end the inning at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, USA.
One inning, one strikeout, no runs. It wasn’t a save situation, so he didn’t do anything special. The Mets rallied for three runs in the ninth, but lost 10-11. Still, Railey hasn’t allowed an earned run in any of his seven starts in May since April 28 against the Washington Nationals.
In 21 games this season, Railey is 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA and 11 saves. After giving up a few big runs early in the season, he went on a scoreless streak in May and lowered his ERA significantly. He is in the final season of a two-year, $10 million contract with the Tampa Bay Rays ahead of the 2022 season. So far, the New York Mets’ trade has been a success. Earlier this month, he had to take a break due to elbow inflammation, but since his return, he’s been going strong without any side effects.
If you look at his stats this season, he is not the lefty who won 48 games for Lotte in the KBO, but rather a righty. He has a 0.100 BABIP, 0.75 WHIP, and 11 strikeouts against righties. Against lefties, he has a 0.290 BABIP, 1.43 WHIP, and 6 strikeouts. Of course, with more data, it’s possible that he’ll show his lefty side.
On the other hand, if he stays strong against righties, there’s no reason to limit him to a left-handed one-pitch relief role. In fact, the Mets bench has used him primarily in left-handed lineups this season, but he’s not exactly shy about facing righties. Railey’s use of the sweeper has continued to evolve this season.
His 11 holds on the season are tied for second in the National League with Carl Edwards (Washington Nationals). He’s not far behind first-place Peter Stzerecki (Milwaukee Brewers, 13). He’s well positioned to make a run at the hold title.안전놀이터
Merrill Kelly (Arizona Diamondbacks, 6 wins) has gotten a lot of attention for being tied for the National League lead in wins with 29, but he’s not the only KBO player with a shot at the individual title. Railly has made the perfect transition to the major leagues as a reliever, and his survival instincts are on full display. If he takes care of his body, he could have a long career as a reliever. Age 35. We’re looking forward to a long, lean, classic career.
