NC Peddie aims to become first foreign pitcher to win Triple Crown
NC Dinos ace Erik Peddie, 30, will look to earn his ninth win of the season and begin his quest for the Triple Crown.
Peddie will take the mound against the LG Twins at 5 p.m. on March 3 at Jamsil Stadium.
Pedi was scheduled to pitch against the Doosan Bears at NC Park in Changwon on April 1. However, the game was canceled due to rain and the start date was pushed back.
NC started Koo Chang-mo instead of Pedi against LG on the 2nd. Rather than pushing back Koo Chang-mo, who had picked up his pace in time for the 2nd LG game, they rescheduled Pedi’s start.
However, Koo was pulled after throwing just five pitches and complaining of forearm discomfort.
NC (24-23) is in fifth place as of June 2. The team is preparing for a crucial game as they look to break into the top half of the standings. Pedi’s responsibility is huge.
Pedi is chasing the Triple Crown (wins, ERA, and strikeouts) in his debut season in the KBO.
In 10 games (61⅓ innings) this year, Pedi is 8-1 with a 1.47 ERA. She is tied for first in wins, first in ERA, and second in strikeouts with 80, behind only Ahn Woo-jin (Kiwoom Heroes – 87). Her 1.01 walks allowed per inning is the best in the league.
Pedi has a .208 batting average and seven quality starts. He also has good command of his pitches, walking just 16 batters (15 for strikes).
His best pitches are a two-seam fastball that sits over 150 mph and a sweeper that curves and sinks just outside the right-hander.
His two-seam fastball and sweeper have been recognized for their tremendous movement, which is beyond the standards of the KBO. His fastball has an average velocity of 148.2 kilometers per hour. His cut fastball and changeup are also competitive pitches.
After winning the opening game against the Samsung Lions on April 1, Pedi went 1-1 in the next three games.
On April 25, he pitched seven innings of three-hit ball against the KIA Tigers, striking out eight and walking none to earn his third win of the season, and has now won six consecutive games.
He’s clearly on pace to win the pitching triple crown.
No foreign pitcher has ever won the Triple Crown in the KBO.
Only three other pitchers have done so: Sun Dong-yeol (1986, 1989, 1990, 1991), Ryu Hyun-jin (2006), and Yoon Seok-min (2011).안전놀이터
Pedi will also attempt to win at least 10 games.
If Pedi wins two consecutive games, including the LG game on March 3, he will tie the record for fewest wins (10 in 12 games).
