Rehabilitation after TJS less than a year ago, 24.9 billion contract, what does it mean to RYU?

The San Francisco Giants strengthened their bullpen by recruiting a top-notch setup man.

The Associated Press reported on the 10th (Korean time) that ‘the Giants agreed to a two-year, $11.5 million contract with right-hander Luke Jackson (32).’

Jackson became a free agent after last year’s season. However, he never hit the mound last year with the Atlanta Braves. His last appearance in the major leagues will be against the New York Mets on October 4, 2021. In the postseason, it was the 4th game of the World Series against the Houston Astros on October 31 of that year. It was a whopping 15 months ago that he appeared in the actual game.

On April 14 last year, Jackson underwent right elbow ligament reconstruction, or Tommy John Surgery (TJS). The surgery takes 12 to 18 months to rehab, and San Francisco offered him a two-year contract because they’re confident Jackson will bounce back this year.

In 71 games in 2021, Jackson recorded 2 wins, 2 losses, 31 holds, an average ERA of 1.98, 70 strikeouts in 63⅔ innings, and a WHIP of 1.162. Jackson, who was active as the strongest setup man by ranking second overall in the hold category that year, led Atlanta to the World Series championship.

Jackson, who was nominated by the Texas Rangers in the first round of the 2010 draft and entered the professional league, made his major league debut in 2015 and moved to Atlanta in 2017, where he played five seasons as a top-notch bullpen pitcher. He appeared in 253 career games, going 16-6 with 45 holds, an earned run average of 4.24, and striking out 284 in 272 innings.

Jackson gets a salary of $3 million this year and $6.5 million next year, and in 2025, San Francisco has a club option for $7 million and a buyout of $2 million. It is noteworthy that the 2025 option has a bonus. In 2024, you will receive a bonus of up to $3.5 million depending on the number of games finished. The bonus criteria applied to closers were established. 메이저놀이터

If the option is executed, it is equivalent to receiving up to $20 million (approximately 24.9 billion won) over three years. But in San Francisco, 25-year-old rookie finisher Camilo Dobal is holding on.

Jackson’s contract has a lot of implications for Toronto Blue Jays Ryu Hyun-jin. Ryu Hyun-jin also underwent the same surgery in June of last year. In a departure interview at the end of last month, he said that he would work hard on his rehabilitation even after going to the United States with the goal of returning in July this year. This means that it is scheduled for July 15, the opening day of the second half. That means he will spend 13 months in rehab.

We don’t know if Jackson can be included in this year’s opening roster, but even if he doesn’t, he’s likely to return in the first half. MLB.com said, ‘Jackson, who is still recovering, will have a hard time fitting in for the season opener. But when he comes back healthy, he’ll help the Giants’ bullpen with his rich set-up career.

If Ryu Hyun-jin returns in the second half of this year and recovers his prime skills, he can be spotlighted again in the free agent market right after the season.
