Ryu Hyun-jin finally in action…July 5 rehab game “Big league in a month unless something happens”
‘Korean Monster’ Ryu Hyun-jin is finally back in action. He’s scheduled to pitch in a rehab game. The timing of his return to the big leagues could be materializing.
“Hyun-jin Ryu will make his first rehab start on July 5 in the Complex League or Single-A,” Canadian TSN Sports reporter Scott Mitchell reported on Twitter on July 2. He added that his fastball only touched 88 miles per hour (141.6 kilometers per hour), but that he had lost 30 pounds and his body shape had changed dramatically.
Most importantly, he mentions the countdown to his return to the big leagues. “Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Ryu could be helping the Toronto Blue Jays in about a month,” Mitchell wrote. This suggests that Ryu could be back in the big leagues in the near future, if not right after the All-Star break, as he had planned since the beginning of the year.
MLBTrader.com, citing Mitchell’s tweet, reported, “He’ll need a couple weeks of rehab games to finish his buildup. That said, a July return still seems within reach,” the report said, suggesting that Ryu’s return may not be until July.
Ryu was removed from the game against the Chicago White Sox on June 2 last year after giving up three runs in four innings. After undergoing Tommy John surgery to repair ligaments in his elbow, he spent more than a year rehabilitating and improving his diet and eating habits. His teammates who knew him before were surprised by his new body shape.
The initial stages of his preparation, from bullpen pitches to live pitches, went well. Now it’s just a matter of getting back into the swing of things with more pitches in rehab games.바카라사이트
Ryu will be eligible for free agency at the end of the season, so his performance in the second half of the season will be crucial, and his team, Toronto, will be waiting for him. Toronto is without key starter Alec Manoa, who has been struggling since the start of the season. The fifth starter spot is up for grabs.
“If Hyun-jin Ryu can return to his best form, it would be a huge boost for Toronto,” MLB Trade Rumors wrote. They also noted that Ryu’s situation could change depending on where Toronto is in the standings at this point. If Toronto were to add more starting pitching, there would be limited room for the veteran, fresh off the disabled list.
