‘Seo Jin-soo equalizer + Lim Chae-min late goal’ Jeju wins 2-1 over Suwon… leap to 2nd place
Jeju United leapfrogged into second place in the league thanks to a come-from-behind goal from Lim Chae-min.
Seo Jin-soo equalized in the 21st minute and Lim Chae-min scored in the 37th minute to give Jeju a 2-1 victory over the visitors, who had opened the scoring in the 16th minute by Ahn Byung-joon, in the 15th round of the Hana OneQ K League 1 2023 at Jeju World Cup Stadium on Sunday.
Jeju has now won six and drawn one of its last seven matches to improve to 27 points (8 wins, 3 draws, 4 losses) and move into second place behind leader Ulsan (37 points). Suwon fell back into a losing streak and remained on 8 points (2 wins, 2 draws, 11 losses), failing to escape the bottom of the table.
Jeju fielded a 3-4-3 on the day. Kim Dong-jun wore the goalkeeper’s gloves, while Jung-woon, Lim Chae-min, and Kim Oh-kyu formed the back three. Lee Ju-yong, Lee Ki-hyuk, Lee Chang-min, and Ahn Hyun-beom were in the midfield, while Kim Dae-hwan, Yuri Jonatan, and Han Jong-mu were in front of the Suwon goal.
Suwon lined up in a 3-3-2-2. Yang Hyung-mo was in goal, while Park Dae-won, Han Ho-gang, and Jang Ho-ik formed the back three. Lee Ki-je, Han Seok-jong, and Son Ho-joon guarded the third line, while Ko Seung-beom and Kim Bo-kyung were in the second line. Lee Sang-min and Ahn Byung-joon rounded out the front two.
In front of a crowd of 6,308, it was the visitors who struck first. In the 16th minute, Ahn Byung-joon connected a sharp cross from Lee Sang-min with a diving header to split the Jeju goal.
With his goal against Jeju, Ahn has scored in three consecutive games. Ahn, who also scored against Gangwon and Ulsan Hyundai, showed off his recent goal-scoring touch by scoring against Jeju.
Suwon’s celebration was short-lived, however. Jeju quickly equalized from the penalty spot to put the game out of reach.
In the 17th minute, Hayes chest-trapped a cross inside the Suwon penalty box and tried to break through, but Park Dae-won lifted his foot high, and Hayes was struck in the chest by Park’s foot and went down.
As the video assistant referee (VAR) was unable to make a decision, the referee personally checked the on-field view to confirm the foul and immediately gave a penalty kick and a warning to Park Dae-won.
Substitute Seo Jin-soo took the kick. His shot, aimed at the left corner of the goal, shook the Suwon net and led to the equalizer.
Suwon goalkeeper Yang Hyung-mo read the direction of Seo Jin-soo’s kick correctly, but was unable to stop the shot as it was headed for the corner.
Suwon took the lead, but Jeju equalized with a penalty kick, and the teams went into halftime tied at 1-1.
In the second half, both teams continued to fight for the win. In the ninth minute of the second half, Suwon winger Jeon Jin-woo, a substitute, broke through from the left flank and got into the box.
With the goalkeeper in front of him, Jeon attempted a left-footed shot at the far post that hit the post and went straight out of play, sending Suwon to the ground.
In the 31st minute of the second half, Ahn Byung-joon’s low, quick free kick from distance found the arms of Jeju goalkeeper Kim Dong-joon, and on the ensuing Jeju counterattack, Ahn Hyun-beom took the ball to the far post, but his shot hit the side netting.
It was Jeju defender Lim Chae-min who made the difference in the tense match.
In the 38th minute of the second half, Jeju won a corner kick, but Yang Hyung-mo was able to block the header.
However, the ball that Yang Hyung-mo blocked flowed to Im Chae-min. Im Chae-min took advantage of the opportunity to shoot again, scoring the game-winning goal to make the score 2-1.안전놀이터
