Seoul announces plans for ‘Jamsil Dome Stadium’, aims to open 2032 season…LG, Dusan need temporary home for 6 years
The city of Seoul has announced plans for a dome stadium in Jamsil. The two teams that call Jamsil Stadium home will have to find a temporary home.
“We will create a world-class ‘sports and MICE complex’ including a dome stadium in Jamsil, as well as a waterfront eco-cultural space connected to the Han River,” the city said on Aug. 18.
On the 17th (KST), Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon visited the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Rogers Centre is the home stadium of the Toronto Blue Jays, where Ryu Hyun-jin plays. On that day, the mayor threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Boston Red Sox game.
The mayor toured the stadium with Toronto team officials and envisioned a plan to build a dome stadium.
According to the city of Seoul, construction of the Jamsil Dome will begin in the first half of 2026. After the 2025 season, the existing Jamsil Stadium will be demolished and the dome will be built in its place. It is planned to be completed by the end of 2031.
“The dome shape allows for stable operation without being affected by adverse weather conditions such as rain and heat waves,” the Seoul Metropolitan Government said, adding, “The stadium and hotel will be connected to provide a unique experience in various hotel spaces such as rooms, restaurants, and fitness.”
If Seoul’s plan goes ahead, the LG Twins and Doosan Bears, who currently use Jamsil Stadium, will need to find a temporary home from the 2026 to 2031 seasons.
The city initially considered Jamsil Stadium as a possible replacement, but ruled it out due to safety concerns as the entire area is under construction. Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome, Mokdong Stadium, KT Wiz Park in Suwon, and SSG Landers Field in Incheon are reportedly under consideration.메이저사이트
If the two teams stay in their hometown of Seoul, Gocheok Sky Dome and Mokdong Stadium would be the two remaining ballparks. Gocheok Sky Dome is the home of the Kiwoom Heroes. Mokdong Stadium hosts amateur baseball tournaments. In particular, Mokdong Stadium does not hold night games due to lighting and noise issues. If Mokdong Stadium were to be utilized, there would also be a problem of resolving complaints.
It is time for the two teams, the KBO, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government to take action.
