‘Springer 4 hits + Gausman 8 innings, 10 Ks, 1 run’ Toronto sweeps series from KC

George Springer shined. He went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs to lead the offense.

Springer, who was 8-for-16 against Zack Greinke in his career prior to this game, continued to torment Greinke after the opener. He hit a solo home run over the left-center field fence in the fourth inning and singled up the middle to put runners on second and third in the fifth.

In the seventh, he hit a solo home run to right-center field off reliever Angel Zerpa.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. also contributed to the offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. In the sixth inning, Cavan Biggio added another run on a double to right-center field, sprinting from first base to home plate and making an exquisite slide to avoid the tag by the opposing catcher.

Toronto starter Kevin Gausman pitched eight innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts to earn the win.

The only run he allowed was a solo home run to Edward Olivares in the fifth inning. He didn’t allow a single run the rest of the way.

With just three pitches – a four-seam fastball (57%), splitter (31%), and slider (11%) – he was able to dominate his opponents. Forty-two of his pitches, or 40 percent of his total, either cleared the strike zone or went for strikes, including inducing 18 foul swings, or 35 percent of all swings.바카라사이트

Kansas City got a solid outing from opener James McArthur, who pitched two scoreless innings, but was unable to hold Greinke to four runs on six hits, one homer, one walk and four strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. The loss dropped him to 44-99.

The two teams were evenly matched on the day. Toronto left fielder Dalton Bashaw made a leaping catch in front of the fence of Salvador Perez’s fly ball in the top of the fourth inning to prevent a long ball.

Kansas City second baseman Michael Massie and shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. shared a spectacular play in the bottom of the seventh. Guerrero Jr. hit a deep fly ball to center field that Massey caught as he fell and tossed right to Witt, who caught it and threw to first for the out.
