SSG falls to 6th place, Kim Kwang-hyun saves well, mood changes after 70-minute rain delay, last chance blocked
SSG Landers eventually fell to sixth place. With two games left in the doubleheader, things took a turn for the worst.
SSG lost the first game of a doubleheader 3-8 in the 14th game of the season against the LG Twins of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Jamsil Stadium on Sunday.
In the first game of the doubleheader, SSG’s batting order was Choo Shin-soo (designated hitter), Choi Ji-hoon (center fielder), Choi Jung (third baseman), Eredia (left fielder), Park Sung-sung (shortstop), Han Yu-seom (right fielder), Choi Joo-hwan (first baseman), Kim Sung-hyun (second baseman), and Cho Hyung-woo (catcher).
SSG struck first. In the top of the first inning, leadoff hitter Choo Shin-soo reached on an error by the third baseman. Choi Ji-hoon followed with a line drive to the second baseman, and Choi Jung flied out to center field. Heredia then singled to right field and reached on a throwing error by the right fielder. With runners on second and third, Park Sung-hyun hit a two-run double to right field.
Starter Kim Kwang-hyun gave up a run in the bottom of the second on a throwing error by third baseman Choi Jung, and a tying solo home run to LG’s foreign-born Austin Dean in the bottom of the fourth.
However, Kim Kwang-hyun was able to hold them to two runs (one earned) until the fifth inning. The problem on this day was defensive errors and the silence of the bats.
SSG had a chance to load the bases in the top of the fourth inning when Lee Jung-yong drew a walk and Oh Ji-hwan made a fielding error, but Choo Shin-soo and Choi Ji-hoon both hit grounders in front of the first baseman, squandering a good chance to get out of the inning.
In the top of the fifth, Choi took the lead again with an RBI single, but in the bottom of the sixth, which resumed after a 70-minute rain delay. Noh Kyung-eun collapsed, allowing SSG to take the lead.

A sacrifice bunt by Kim Sung-hyun put runners on first and second and third. SSG played the substitution card, and Kim Kang-min came to bat for Cho Hyung-woo. LG brought up Ko Woo-seok with a fastball.
SSG was unable to catch Go Woo-seok. Kim Kang-min struck out swinging and Choo Shin-soo flied out to center field. SSG eventually dropped from fifth to sixth place with a .517 winning percentage. Doosan moved into fourth place with an 8-3 win over KIA, while KIA is in fifth place with the same winning percentage as SSG but with four fewer games played.
