Toronto squeaks by Oakland…closes to within 0.5 games of 3rd AL wild-card spot

Taking a 6-5 victory in 10 extra innings
Biggio-Guerrero Jr. has multi-hit performance

By Sang-Cheol Lee = The Toronto Blue Jays picked up a new win against the Oakland Athletics, the lowest winning percentage team in Major League Baseball (MLB).

Toronto defeated the A’s 6-5 in 10 innings on Friday (July 5) at Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, Calif.

Toronto, which took the first game of a three-game West Coast series against Oakland, improved to 76-62 on the season and closed to within half a game of the third American League wild-card spot, the Texas Rangers (76-61).

Oakland, meanwhile, saw its four-game winning streak come to an end and fell to 42-96.

While Toronto secured the victory, it was a close game until the end.

The A’s scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning with the bases loaded, but gave up a solo shot in each of the fifth through seventh innings to tie the game.

Unable to settle the score in regulation, the teams went into extra innings.

Toronto scored three runs in the top of the 10th on an RBI double by Santiago Espinal, an RBI single by Cavan Biggio and an RBI double by Spencer Horvitz.

But reliever Jordan Romano gave up a two-run homer to Lawrence Butler in the bottom of the 10th to cut the deficit to 6-5, one run.

Romano was shaky after giving up a walk in the first inning, but he got Zack Geloff to ground out to end the game.

Starter Jose Berrios was hit by two home runs but bounced back with six innings of four-hit ball (two homers), one walk, seven strikeouts and two runs. Romano got the win with help from his offense.바카라사이트
