‘U.S. hell training’ Kang Gyeong-nam “I gained 10 yards”
Kang Kyung-nam from ‘Competition’ ate his heart.
He is determined to make 2023 his year. In December of last year, he set up a battery training camp in Irvine, California, USA and is sweating hard. In an interview with Asia Economic Daily on the 2nd, Kang Kyung-nam said, “I’m trying to increase the shot distance,” and said, “I actually increased about 10 yards.” His average drive distance last season was 282.82 yards (86th). Kang Gyeong-nam plans to return to Korea at the end of this month after training on the battery for two months.
Kang Kyung-nam is the ‘history’ of the Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Korean Tour. After joining the Korean Tour in August 2003, he entered the ‘Top 10’ twice in four tournaments, including two tournaments he participated in as a recommended player, and secured a seed in 2004. He accumulated a whopping 11 victories on the Korean Tour. In 2006, he won his first championship at the Tomato Savings Bank Zephyros Open, winning two victories that year, winning the prize money king and lowest stroke award (Deok Chun Award).
He won 3 wins in 2007, 1 win in 2010, 2 wins in 2011 and 1 win in 2013 before enlisting in the military. After completing his military service, he returned to the tour in 2016 and won his 10th Korean Tour win at the 2017 Jinju Savings Bank Kaido Men’s Open. It is his 8th best record of all time. In 2021, he collected his 11th championship cup at the Biz Play Electronic Newspaper Open. Kang Kyung-nam tied for 7th in the domestic most wins ranking with Choi Yun-soo and Park Sang-hyun, and the accumulated prize money was 2nd (3,875,862,469 won) following Park Sang-hyun (4,386,566,753 won).
Kang Kyung-nam celebrated the 20th anniversary of his Korean Tour debut this year. He said, “From 2005 to 2007 was the best period,” and “back then, golf really became what I wanted.” He continued, “It didn’t take long for me to add victories after finishing my military service,” adding, “Thanks to that, I was able to continue my tour life with confidence.”
Kang Kyung-nam is synonymous with persistence. Until last year, he participated in 237 competitions and advanced to the finals in 195 competitions. He has also won the ‘Top 10’ 93 times. He maintains his seed every year on his own. He has never dropped outside the top 50 on the Genesis money list. Kang Kyung-nam said, “Looking back, I didn’t go through a slump.” He expressed his gratitude, saying, “I received a lot of help from people around me.”
Kang Kyung-nam showed off his rust-free skills last season as well. He appeared in 21 events and finished in the top 10 four times, including runner-up at the Woosung General Construction Open. The Genesis point is 14th (3588.82 points), and the Genesis prize money is 22nd (260,440,637 won). Kang Kyung-nam revealed the secret of his longevity, saying, “I never practiced less” and “I always kept a steady amount of practice.”
Kang Gyeong-nam also tightens the laces of his golf shoes in the United States. He invests 4 hours in putt practice in the morning and 2-3 hours in shot training such as driver and iron in the afternoon. He does four practice rounds a week to keep up with his real-world feel. Kang Kyung-nam’s accuracy of his iron shot was outstanding enough to record a green hit rate of 73.40% (21st place) last year. However, the average number of putts was 1.82 (53rd), which was disappointing. There were times when he missed a birdie putt at a crucial moment. Kang Kyung-nam said, “I am immersed in putting practice because I think I need the clutch ability at the chance.” Sooner or later, Jang Jang-jun and Park Seong-jun plan to join the Irvine camp and train together. 스포츠토토
Kang Kyung-nam tried to change for the new year. In the case of drivers, they switched from Callaway to Titleist. In addition, his main sponsor also moved from Yoo Young Pharmaceutical to Daeseon Joo Joo. Kang Kyung-nam said, “I had several chances to win last year, but it was regrettable that I couldn’t add another championship.” Kang Kyung-nam got married in 2016 and has two daughters. He emphasized, “Thanks to his wife and two daughters, he has become psychologically stable,” and “after his marriage, he has become more faithful in self-management.”
Kang Kyung-nam, born in 1983, is determined to establish his self-esteem in his 40s this year. Kang Kyung-nam said, “The goal for 2023 is to win,” and said, “It will be more meaningful if we win because there are not many players in their 40s active on the tour.” therefore “
