‘Whimunjung one-two punch’ twins Park Bum-jin and Park Bum-yoon, older brother also an NCAA hopeful
Twin brothers Huh Moon-joong led their team to victory.
Hwimunjung led Seongnam Middle to a 77-59 victory over Seoul Gyeongin-Gangwon in the Boys’ Secondary Seoul-Gyeongin-Gangwon Group B of the 2023 Korea Basketball Weekend League at Gyeongbokgo Gymnasium on Monday. It was the first win of the tournament for Whimunjung.
The ‘twins’ were at the center of the victory. Sophomores Park Bum-jin (187 cm, F) and Park Bum-yoon (187 cm, F) led the offense with 27 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists, while his brother chipped in with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists.
After the game, Park Bum-jin said, “I’m very happy to get the first win of the tournament,” while Park Bum-yoon said, “I think the whole team did a good job, even though we had a lot of shortcomings. I’m glad we got the win.”
Although they are twins, their playing styles are completely different. “For example, (Park) Bum-jin is good at defending and rebounding under the basket. On the other hand, (Park) Bum-yoon is more of an offensive player.”
When asked about his strengths, Park said, “I’m confident in playing under the basket, but I still lack the ability to finish. My coach always advises me on this,” and Park Bum-yoon said, “I’m similar. I’m good at penetrating, but my finishing is still immature.”
The twins owe much of their basketball career to their older brother. All four of their brothers, Park Bum-il and Park Bum-young, are basketball players. One of them, Park Bum-young (198 cm, F), has distinguished himself in the KBL’s youth club competition and was named an associate player of the Seoul Samsung in 2019. He’s an elite player who has his sights set on the NCAA division (Park and Bum-yoon are also on the Samsung roster for 2022).안전놀이터
“I always watched (Park) Bum-young’s older brother play basketball,” Park and Bum-yoon said side by side. It was fun to watch, and that’s how I got started.”
In conclusion, they said, “The goal is to reach the Wangjung Wangjeon unconditionally. Now that we have recorded our first win, we want to do our best to win the remaining games.”
